Netflix has decided to release the trailer for Stranger Things season 4.

And, yes, this confirms the speculation that Jim Hopper survived and working in some sort of Russian prison camp.

“Look down, look down, don’t look ‘em in the eye,” Hopper and his fellow prisoners should be singing in the teaser.

Season 3 finished with words that someone called "The American" was rotting in a cell in Eastern Europe. Turns out, that American – as was much speculated – is almost certainly Hopper.

Fans can't quite contain their excitement, with one announcing:

"HOPPER IS ALIVE,"

“Stranger Things 4 trailer dropping is by far the best valentines present I could’ve asked for.”

While another said:

Someone else wrote:

"HOPPER IS ALIVE, I TOLD YOU ALL,"

And one fan commented: "OOOOOOOMMMGGGG! HOOOOPPER COME BACK!!!!"

The show's creators, the Duffer brothers, said of the return:

"We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway – and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper!

"Although it’s not all good news for our American; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human...and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything…."

They added:

"Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime–- pray for the American."

There's still no confirmation of a Stranger Things season 4 release date. However, there are a few clues out there that hint when the hit show might return to Netflix, with some pointing to another holiday-themed release (via Inverse) December.

The Stranger Things writers were asked on Twitter what their favourite Robin Buckley line was and they responded by saying:

"Also a season 4 line so you're going to have to wait to get that answer."
